Independent Contractors Training
The Federal Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), part of the Department of Labor, regulates activities performed at mines, sand pits and quarries. These include training requirements of 30 CFR Part 46 (Surface) and Part 48 (Underground) and Safety and Health Standards contained in 30 CRF Parts 56, 57 and 58.
Under the Mine Act, the definition of “miner” for training purposes includes, “any person…who is engaged in the extraction and production process, or who is regularly exposed to mine hazards, or who is a maintenance or service worker contracted by the operator to work at a mine, quarry, or sand pit/plant for frequent or extended periods”.
Therefore, independent contractors are specifically regulated by MSHA. River Products Company has an Independent Contractor Compliance Program. Under most circumstances, if you are contracted to perform work activities at any RPC location, you must be on the approved contractor list & have completed Independent Contractor Training. Contact Deb Tisor, Executive Assistant at our Corporate Offices to initiate this approval process.
